One of the most successful Netflix series (now) is back to close spectacularly in 2021. The Cobra Kai that has managed to attract an audience because of Karate Kid but also new Fans in the franchise is back with 10 new episodes that are the first possible binge watching of the year or the last of the previous one depending on how fast you are.
Having finished the previous season at a rather critical point, the 4th season starts with many open fronts. Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang must work together to win the tournament and end the paranoia of Kreese and Cobra Kai. With LaRusso and Lawrence allying, Kreese will enlist the help of an iconic Karate Kid character, and the already troubled waters will swell even more when Terry Silver enters the dojos' hatred.
Much of the 4th season is spent preparing for the All Valley but also LaRusso and Lawrence trying to ally. The two characters try to do the best for their students but at the same time their ideologies are so opposed that conflict is inevitable. All this results in more tensions but also a kind of confusion for students trying to find their own combative way. Of course, the personal rivalries of the students could not be missing from the forefront this season as well, and in fact some are given a special emphasis.
Other times for atonement, in Hawk's case, and other times to get to know the other side of the coin better, a good example here is Tory who has a really good storyline this season. All this leads to the "finale" and the long-awaited All Valley that is definitely coming to reward the spectators and to close the season spectacularly. At the same time, however, we know that the story will continue, so do not expect calm on the horizon.
Season 4 had some very strong cards in its hands but failed to become Cobra Kai's best season. The main reason for this is the unnecessary teenage drama but also the far back and forth in the LaRusso-Lawrence alliance. The two characters have a history of years and the actors seem to have unique chemistry and manage to keep the series. However, in the 4th season, I felt that they were a little wronged. The difficulty of finding common ground is perfectly reasonable and expected, at first it is something that catches your interest but after a while and a few failed attempts it starts to look childish and loses its value.
The season also includes new characters who in some places handle it awkwardly and we will have to wait for future seasons to shine. The series and the Franchise in general have always presented the fear of Bullying and this season keeps this feature and presents it in a great way. The return of Thomas Ian Griffith as Terry Silver is simply unique, from its interpretation to its introduction but also the musical investment that the scenes full of evil that it brings out receive. He is definitely an unbalanced character and the series has a really good Villain in its hands. His prehistory with Kreese gave a great dynamic to the season that definitely stood out. The series returns and gives us 10 enjoyable episodes ideal for Binge watching. In some places the plot is slow and faces the problems mentioned above however it manages to be enjoyable and offer a generally good result as a whole. The tournament comes to reward the audience with fantastic battles and several upheavals that pave the way for the 5th season which as everything shows will not be the last season of the series and its shooting has been completed before the premiere of the 4th season. The sequel is possible and the connections with the past and the Karate Kid are not over!
